mononoke・made × SWEAT PANTS
mononoke・made is a brand born from a special project between world-renowned artist Takashi Murakami and designer Yuta Hosokawa, who also works on READYMADE/©SAINT Mxxxxxx. The two first met in 2018. Since then, they have cultivated a deep mutual respect and dialogue as creators, and in 2021, Murakami invited Hosokawa to hold a solo exhibition at Kaikai Kiki Gallery, demonstrating the trust they have built over many years. Building upon this foundation, mononoke・made, Kaikai Kiki's first original brand, was born after approximately two years from conception to completion.
The core of this project lies in its stance that it is "not just a collaboration." The artwork used is not limited to the globally known "Flowers" and "DOB," but also includes a valuable collection of Takashi Murakami's works that have never been released as apparel before. Hosokawa has thoroughly engaged with these works, paying attention to every detail of the materials, structure, sewing, and processing, and has elevated them into three-dimensional products through numerous prototypes. The first drop will feature an iconic varsity jacket with "Cherry Blossoms" and "Skulls" as motifs, as well as sweatshirts with "Blue Dragon" and "White Tiger," and T-shirts, hoodies, and sweatpants using "Flowers." In particular, the varsity jacket is an ultra-high-density piece in which more than 20,000 stitches of embroidery and transfer print are precisely layered, and only one can be completed per day. It balances the value as art with the perfection of a product that can be worn in everyday life. "Art to wear"—that's the essence of mononoke・made.
