grounds × SHOES

"grounds" was founded in 2019 and is directed by fashion designer Mikio Sakabe. Sakabe graduated with honors from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, and his approach, with its unique design philosophy, focuses on fusing fashion with functionality. In particular, the brand's concept, "LEAP GRAVITY," aims to "bring about a change in the relationship between humans and gravity," and this philosophy is reflected particularly in the design of the shoe's outsole.

The 26SS collection explores the relationship between opposing elements such as body and space, nature and artificiality, stillness and movement, based on the theme of "redefining boundaries." In today's world of accelerating change, people are constantly moving between multiple boundaries, never remaining confined to a single set of values ​​or perspectives. This collection does not reject this instability or fluctuation, but instead embraces it as a positive energy, elevating it into grounds' signature artistic expression. Its inspiration comes from the subtle presence of nature in the city and the physical sensations amplified by technology. The design, which combines organic forms with inorganic structures, softness and tension, not only creates a visual impact but also stimulates the entire body, from the feet up. The combination of a sculptural outsole and a lightweight upper achieves a high level of functionality and beauty. It invites each wearer to confront their own sensibilities and values ​​and reexamine the boundaries of everyday life.
