FEAR OF GOD
Fear of God is a street fashion brand founded in 2012 by American designer Jerry Lorenzo. The son of a former Major League Baseball player, Jerry developed an interest in fashion from an early age and gained knowledge of the apparel industry through part-time jobs at Diesel and Gap. The brand is known for its blend of street fashion and luxury, featuring a variety of elements, including layered styles, streetwear, grunge, and rock. The brand releases collections irregularly, captivating many fans with its originality.
The AW25 collection, "A Civil Collection," explores a response to history and society through clothing. Drawing on the civil rights movement of the 1960s, it explores how protest and dignity should be expressed through clothing. Designer Jerry Lorenzo prioritizes message over theme, viewing clothing as an expression of "self-preservation." Believing that protest attire should be easily accessible from the workplace, the collection mixes formal suits and overcoats with casual elements like sweatshirts and denim. The collection centers on black, with earth tones, gray, and pale blue accents. Black, in particular, is perceived as a color of strength and presence, reinterpreting Black Panther-inspired leather jackets and turtlenecks. Fonts and slogans from protest posters are incorporated into the garments, creating an intersection of visuals and history. A Civil Collection is clothing in which wearing becomes an act. This season marks the next stage for Fear of God, proposing ways to possess the dignity of being an individual at the intersection of history and the present.
